Fusion tracking — sometimes called hybrid tracking — combines two different sensor types in a single launch monitor. The most common pairing is radar plus one or more cameras.
The goal is to capture the strengths of each technology in one unit:
- Radar measures the ball through its flight (good for trajectory, apex, carry).
- Cameras capture the ball and club at impact (good for spin, face angle, club path).
Fusion units output both ball flight data and detailed impact data, which historically required two separate devices.
Tradeoffs
Fusion units typically cost more than single-technology monitors and may still need the same physical space as a pure radar unit (some ball flight is required for the radar component to compute results).
Common fusion launch monitors
FlightScope Mevo+, FlightScope X3, and Trackman are examples that use fusion approaches in different forms.
